Healthy Fingers

Healthy fingers begin with Physician's recommendations.  When a patient is diagnosed with Diabetes, the Physician usually recommends testing blood sugar through lancing themselves.  During this process, the patient is advised NOT to re-use a lancet.  This standard was established in order to avoid infection and maintain excellent finger health.  Maintaining finger health can be difficult for people with diabetes, especially when multiple blood samples are needed throughout the day.

For healthy, fast-healing fingers, it is important to change your lancet each time you test.  If you chose to re-use your lancet after each test, the following risk factors are increased:

  • The tip of the lancet needle will become dull and begin to bend into the shape of a hook
  • The needle's surface will become rough*
  • The lubricant on the lancet could possibly wear off*
  • Your chances for scarring increase*

(Note: It is not recommended to clean the lancet with alcohol for example, b/c it too could affect the lubricant/siliconization on the lancet needle).*

  • Your chances for a skin infection at the test site increase
  • A larger puncture in the skin is made, which requres a longer healing process
  • Each test will become increasingly more painful

How does Renew™ keep your fingers healthy?
The technology promotes faster healing fingers (test sites) with:
